MIA

I've been MIA because my Mom and Dad are in town!

Oh, and I started a new job!

So between working a new schedule and showing Mom and Dad around town, my free time has been limited to brief moments of rest in between all of the fun times :-)

Yesterday we were able to attend a Yankees spring training game at Steinbrenner Field.  The Yankees beat the Washington Nationals 4-3.  It was a great game!

Today we set out on a lunch cruise on the Hillsborough River to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  I stayed away from the green beer but couldn't avoid the GREEN river!  The channel was died green to celebrate today.  I can't say I agree with it on the basis of the potential ecological effects (?) of dying the river, but it sure was interesting to see.

We're going to try to stay cool for the rest of the afternoon and hit the beach tomorrow before grilling out for dinner tomorrow night.

I think Mom, Dad and I are going to head up to Tarpon Springs on Monday to explore.

Happy St. Patty's Day to you!

Weekend Recap

A look back at what was an absolutely perfect weekend...

We checked out the Tampa Food Truck Rally 2.0!

Some foods we tried were good....
Miami Burger from Burger Culture Truck

Some were bad....
Chocolate Pecan Pie??  um...not what we were expecting.

Some were to die for....
Latin Lovers Crepe (Bananas & Nutella) from La Creparia Cafe Truck

We took Hudson on base to enjoy the nice weather.

Brian and I spent a few hours reading.  Hudson waited patiently for his turn at having some fun....

When it was Hudson's turn, Brian joined him in a game of "chase the Italian Greyhound"

A fabulous day was had by all!

Weekend Getaway

The other day as we were taking Hudson on our evening walk, I said to B "I need a vacation!" After letting out an exasperated sigh and rolling his eyes (B is known for his exaggerated responses to my random declarations) he asked me why I could possibly need a vacation, after all I don't have a job and we only just got back from a 2-week trip to Hawai'i a few months ago. After explaining how mentally-draining it is for me to be so far away from my usual sources of inspiration (designer shops, art museums, old city architecture, art museums, good restaurants and the occasional artisan bakery), I think B started to come around to the idea of a long weekend away.

While the idea of a Memorial Day weekend getaway is pretty much out of the question, and we already have plans for the July 4th weekend, Labor day is a few months away and we're starting to look at our options now. Locally (well, within a 6 hour drive), we both want to visit the Biltmore Estate and nearby Asheville, as well as Charleston, SC. A little farther away there's Key West, Florida or somewhere in New England, Maine maybe....

Wherever we decide to go, I'd love to have a cute Weekender Bag to tote my belongings:

...maybe I'd go with something funky or whimsical....

$190 from eBags

$75 from eBags

...or perhaps chic and sophisticated....

$380 from Bloomingdales

$495 from Bloomingdales

...but no matter what, these are the two things I won't leave behind:

Are you planning any weekend getaways? Have any recommendations for us? Leave a comment!!
